I AM YC has been working hard to open the first ever Yavapai Community College Food Pantry. It has been successful. The purpose of the pantry, located on the Prescott Campus, is to aid students who are “facing food insecurity.” The College urges students, staff and others to stop by on October 10 to learn more and see the food pantry during the ribbon cutting ceremony .
Yavapai Community College has announced that it will celebrate staff, students and family during Roughrider Nation Days. Roughrider Nation Days will coincide with the Prescott Campus Family Weekend, October 13-14. No similar celebration is being held on the Verde Campus on the East side of the County.
The events on the Prescott Campus include: Friday, October 13, 5 p.m., concert and barbecue in the Roughrider Circle near Building 19 on the Prescott Campus. The barbecue will be followed at 7 p.m. by a Roughrider Volleyball match vs. South Mountain in the YC gym.
A second event will be held Saturday, October 14, 9 to 10:30 a.m., which is a pancake brunch in the Rider Diner in Building 3 on the Prescott Campus.
The Prescott Campus bookstore, says the College, will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and “visitors are welcome to enjoy the fall beauty on self-guided campus tours.” At 6 p.m. the Community College Soccer team takes on Mesa Community College at Ken Lindley Field.
The Performing Arts Center on the Prescott campus has lined up several outstanding events for Prescott residents during the month of September. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED for dinner. Alcoholic beverages and gratuity is not included in your pre-show dinner ticket price. Tickets for show admission are purchased separately. Vegetarian option available.

The Yavapai Community College District Governing Board will meet at 1 PM on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. The meeting will take place on the Prescott Campus at the Rock House. The meeting will begin at 1 PM. The Rock House is located at 1100 E. Sheldon St., Prescott, AZ.

Often, PowerPoint presentations that are used during the Board meeting are not posted along with the agenda. They generally appear after the meeting if they were not previously posted.
Yavapai Community College is the Center of the Prescott Film Festival that runs from June 9-17 on the Prescott Campus. This is the 8th year of the Festival.
The Executive Director of the independent nonprofit Festival is Professor Helen Stephenson, who is also the Yavapai College Film and Media Arts Director.
All of the Festival programs, films, and events are scheduled for the Prescott Campus at the Performing Arts Center.
Among the formal sponsors for the program are Yavapai Community College and the Yavapai Community College Film and Media Arts Department. (See http://prescottfilmfestival.com/sponsors/.) Is it usual for a Department to sponsor an event?

You might recall that the Sedona Film School, which was the successor to the internationally acclaimed Zaki Gordon Film School located at Yavapai College’s Sedona Center, was closed down by Dr. Penelope Wills in 2013. Prior to its closing, the Sedona Film school was heavily involved in the Sedona International Film Festival.
The Wills’ administration, under enormous pressure from the Verde Valley, has been experimenting with bringing a handful of cultural events to the area. It has a huge cultural program on the West side of the County.
On Saturday, September 22, 2016 it put on a program that featured a three-person jazz concert at the Camp Verde Philp England Center. This was the first such program in Camp Verde sponsored by the College.
Kudos go to Craig Ralston, Director of the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center, for his patience and effort in trying to find effective ways in which to bring these events to the community. Despite problems.
This program ran into problems. As with several other events, the College advertised ticket price for the concert was $32. The problem was that only 24 tickets had been sold shortly before the Saturday concert.
Dean Ralston said that the small number of tickets were sold despite “extensive marketing and promotion (postcards, flyers, posters, ads in paper, Kudos, radio, social media).” Given the sparse sales, Ralston felt the best approach was to make the concert “free.” He traveled personally to Camp Verde, Sedona and Cottonwood/Clarkdale handing out complimentary tickets to key business and organizations.
In the end and thanks to Raltson’s personal commitment, over 130 residents turned up for an excellent concert by the trio.
