Cottonwood Oak Creek Eighth-grade students visit Verde Campus
Yvonnne Gonzalez reported in the February 8 Verde Independent on a new program initiated by the Cottonwood Oak Creek School District to help students talk about college and career paths early in their education. The first batch of 85 eighth-grade students toured the Verde campus to learn how they need to be prepared for college. The complete story by Ms. Gonzalez can be found in the Verde Independent by clicking here.

Residents surrounding the Verde campus should know that the campus weight room has weight machines, free weights, cardio equipment, and a weight room staff who are friendly and ready to help you with your New Year’s Resolution workouts.
The northbound route, as reported by the College, starts on the reservation at the YAN Medical Clinic and ends at the tribal community in Clarkdale. The southbound shuttle back to Camp Verde follows the same route in reverse. The YAT links into the Cottonwood Area Transit (CAT) system and Verde Lynx for those going on to the Sedona area. In Camp Verde, it links to Beaver Creek’s volunteer bus program. The system operates Monday through Friday, but not on tribal holidays.
Verde Executive Dean James Perey told the Yavapai College Advisory Committee to the Governing Board that “we still have a two-year nursing program” in the Verde Valley. Perey said that there are “no immediate plans to remove it at this time.” He also indicated in response to a question from the Chair of the Committee that the entire two-years of training could be completed in the Verde Valley.
